Gates of LODORE on the Green River

GATES of LODORE on the GREEN RIVER

Thursday May 31 - Tuesday June 5, 2017

About the expedition

The Green River carves a course through three unique canyons in Dinosaur National Monument - Lodore, Whirlpool and Split Mountain - each with its' own distinctive colors, and character. Lodore Canyon was the first major canyon encountered by the famous explorer John Wesley Powell on his 1869 expedition, and while their misfortunes led to rapids with names like Disaster Falls and Hell’s Half Mile, you're certain to view this place as little piece of heaven.

A relatively short canyon in terms of length, Lodore thereby leaves plenty of time for exploratory hikes to pictographs, waterfalls, and shaded grottoes - or long afternoons in camp to explore the world around and within us.

Gates of Lodore Itinerary:

This expedition begins at the Gates of Lodore campground and boat ramp on the evening of Thursday, May 31st where we’ll gaze downstream at the famous “Gates of Lodore” that await our group the next morning.

On Friday June 1, our expedition will launch onto the Green River and a magic carpet of beautiful green water into the unique redsthat come alive on Lodore’s canyon walls - changing hues as the angle of the sunmoves throughout the day. We’ll navigate numerous technical rapids in rafts andinflatable kayaks, hike to grottos, waterfalls, and ancient pictographs. We’ll campalong the way on sand beaches under a blanket of incredible stars, bellies full offantastic meals provided by the best professional river guides.

All along the way, through candid conversations and facilitation, we'll be amplifying the experience of the river and canyon to extend your horizon for what appears possible. This is a stunning backdrop for a like - minded tribe ofadventurers to unlock the answers for connecting deeper to whatever mattersmost in life. What are you really here to do? You want more of something - what is it? More importantly, what's holding you back?

Ultimately, we’ll be awed by the scenery and energy that make up Echo Park -where the Green River confluences with the mighty free-flowing Yampa River, and we’ll finish our expedition adrenalized in Split Mountain Canyon as the river changescharacter with increased volume and gradient - offering several large volume rapids. Arriving at the take out mid- to late-afternoon on Tuesday June 5th, expedition members can be back to the front range late that evening.

Your investment of $2,700 includes:
